Thanks to the new policies to promote tourism and welcome more tourist, the number of traveler visiting Vietnam has increased significantly in the last decades. Vietnam has been known as one of the best destinations in Southeast Asia. In a previous blog, we shared the best packing tips for a great Vietnam customized holidays. It is also important to pay attention to the information of things/items that you should not bring with you while traveling in Vietnam. Below is our guide for you to know about the important rules in Vietnam before packing for your trip.
Banned materials
Obviously, Vietnam’s laws are really strict against illegal drugs and narcotics. So, please do not bring any illegal drugs (even include cannabis) when you travel in Vietnam. Weapons are also banned in Vietnam so such things like ammunitions, explosives or inflammable objects should be excluded from your luggage. If you are caught with illegal drugs or weapons, you are in real trouble and the penalty will be quite harsh.
While you are traveling along Vietnam on your customized tour, do not purchase things like antiques, some type of precious stone, rare animals or plants listed in Vietnam’s red-book as they are banned from trading and exporting.
Political Propaganda
It is a good idea to learn about the history and culture of Vietnam before you travel to the country, but you are highly recommended not to bring your documents to Vietnam if they contain any materials that can be considered as anti-government. You may be reprimanded heavily and those reading materials will be confiscated.
Pornographic Materials
Pornography is illegal in Vietnam but can be obtainable easily in some neighbor countries. Therefore, you should re-check your luggage and make sure you get rid of any pornographic materials before getting to Vietnam when doing a multi-countries holidays. Any sale or possession of pornography in Vietnam is prohibited and the enforcement is very strict. You might be asked to stop for checking if carrying unlabeled DVDs in your luggage. That can ruin your traveling experience or schedule of your Vietnam customized holidays.
Expensive items
It is highly recommended to leave your expensive items such as real gold necklace or diamond bracelet at home if you do not really need them to avoid theft in Vietnam. While wandering the busy streets in major cities in Vietnam, those expensive things can be snatched by bad guys on motorbikes before you could realize what has happened. The dense and chaotic traffic with thousands of motorbike makes it impossible to know who to chase down if someone snatch your necklace or bracelet and run away.
For expensive electronic items, we also recommend you not to bring many of them. You should have strap for you camera and keep it strapped around your neck or wrist while taking picture. As for expensive phones, use them carefully while you are on the street, should stand facing inwards rather than towards the street. Keep your expensive electronics hidden in the thick-strapped bag when you don’t need to use them.
This is a summary of things you should not pack up when planning to travel to Vietnam. However, regulations can be changed at different time, remember to double check the information before you decide to bring special items to Vietnam.
